Trends in Interiors: Fall 2023

Back in September, Kristin Crane highlighted the design and color trends that made an appearance in Fall 2023. Some key trends she noticed included cozy colors, lush textures, and the return of “art prints” on the runways. These trends have influenced interiors over the past few months – with a few additional trends also popping up.

Five Trends in Interiors

Trend #1: Cozy Colors

This fall, warm colors and bold hues are the go-to color choices for interiors. As Kristin noted in September, reds, pinks, and oranges are the focus this fall. However, while these traditional fall colors remain popular, a variety of earth tones have risen in popularity as well. Terracotta is increasing in popularity, as well as a large variety of shades of green and rich browns. Although most trends point away from traditional gray and white neutrals, neutrals remain present in interior design choices, complimenting and adding balance to the bolder colors dominating this year.

Trend #2: Textures

Lush, chunky, and nature-inspired textures continue to make a statement in Fall 2023, bringing visual interest to interior spaces. Textures are making an appearance in many ways, including drapes, furniture, decorative throws, pillows, bedding, and area rugs. Layering these textures for visual interest and coziness continues to remain popular, particularly as the winter season approaches.

Trend #3: Natural Materials

Over the past year, designing with natural materials has become increasingly popular in both commercial and residential interiors. This trend continues into Fall 2023 as well, with natural woods, high-contrast stones, woven fabrics, and greenery continuing to be included in interiors. The desire to bring elements of the outdoors inside through biophilic design has been trending for a while, both for the design aesthetic and a variety of health and wellness benefits.

Trend #4: Prints and Patterns

Prints and patterns have continued to influence interiors this fall in various ways. Cozy patterns have made their way into a variety of textiles around the home to continue bringing visual interest to spaces. Additionally, wallpapers remain popular and are often layered with patterned curtains to add to the cozy feel. This maximalist approach to pattern layering seems to be making a slow comeback, with a focus on thoughtful and personal design choices that feel timeless to those inhabiting the space.

Trend #5: A Continued Focus on Sustainability

Fall 2023 interior trends focus on blending the old and the new. This year, designers and homeowners have begun designing with an eye towards sustainability, thinking about the life of the objects they choose to incorporate in their spaces and how to breathe life into second-hand pieces

Head back over to the blog and take a look at Fall 2023 Color Trends for more insight on the runway trends that influenced the interior trends listed above. Whether these trends will show up specifically in hospitality interiors or other commercial spaces, it’s always interesting to see what how designers express these trends.
