NeoCon 2023 Color Trends

Walking the floors of the Mart this year, we weren’t stuck by any overwhelming new color trend. In fact, NeoCon 2023 color trends didn’t feel like a huge departure from the colors we saw trending in 2022. Instead, they felt like more of a continuation and expansion of that palette. There were still a lot of super saturated, rich pastels, earth tones, and colored neutrals. Overall, the colors we saw felt grounding, warm, and inclusive.

If we compare the colors we saw to the overarching trends of the show, they definitely align. An emphasis on health and wellness in workplaces and commercial spaces is reflected in the grounding colors that connect people to nature. Also, the hybrid workspaces trend seemed to dictate color choices suitable for multiple situations and adaptable spaces. In these environments, designers used colors that help people feel comfortable and safe. These colors also aren’t so far removed from colors seen in other areas of life, such as residential and hospitality spaces.

In addition to color, the finish of the materials was overwhelmingly very matte. We didn’t see a lot of lush, glossy materials. That’s not to say the materials were not flat, though. Many of the woven textiles had rich textures, sometimes tapping into a handmade feel. As we mentioned in our trends piece, exhibitors were showing more materials used in their products and giving attendees a glimpse into how their products were made. Interior designers are interested in specifying materials made sustainably. They are also well educated in what that means exactly. With that knowledge, interest has grown in letting some of the materials be the highlight of the product.
