Tropical Patterns in the Pattern Library

Inspiration for patterns in our library comes from many places, including travels by our team. This winter, I had the opportunity to return to a place that always refuels my soul: Hawaii. I came home refreshed and thinking about how tropical locations have inspired many tropical patterns in the pattern library.

Are you looking to use a tropical pattern in your next project? I’ve curated a few groups that will surely bring warm and sunny vibes to your next project.

Food

Tropical fruits always tastes better at their source. Mangosteens are a favorite of mine and very difficult to find in New England, especially super fresh ones. They taste like nothing else, and I can almost smell them when I see our Cross Hatch Mangosteen pattern.

Fruits and vegetables have often been a source of inspiration and are especially expressive when created with a block print technique. These patterns work well when used in kitchens, cafes, or on products such as linens or tableware.

Foliage

Hawaii is full of beautiful, lush foliage. Each fern or leaf is uniquely textured and perfect for pattern design. A few of my favorite leaf patterns in our library add a touch of calm since with the addition of a watercolor effect.

Lifestyle

If you want to tap into coastal feelings, scroll through our novelty prints. There you will find patterns inspired by sailboats, lighthouses, shells, and more. These patterns are perfect to use in sunrooms, waiting rooms, kitchens, or any space you want to infuse with memories of the ocean.

Color

And finally, color! Tropical environments burst with vibrant color. These colors and color combinations can inform complete color palettes for a room or project. Occasionally, images such as these become the starting point for one of our Friday color palettes. We share these palettes each week on Instagram and Pinterest.
