Sustainability Round Up!

We have talked about sustainability in interior design many times on the blog over the years, especially in April for Earth Month. As this year’s Earth Month comes to a close, I wanted to round up all of our favorite blog posts about sustainability in one place. That way you have easy access to them all.

I strongly believe moving away from a resource-heavy, inventory-based business model for an on-demand one is a critical step toward more sustainable manufacturing. I hope you find inspiration in one, or all, of these posts.

Five posts you shouldn’t miss about sustainability.

Our latest blog post about sustainability outlines three trends we’re seeing in sustainable sourcing:

  • Transparency
  • Circularity
  • Sustainable Materials

In this post we describe five sustainable manufacturing terms we see popping up frequently:

  • On-Demand Manufacturing
  • Circular Economy
  • Corporate Social Responsibilty (CSR)
  • Zero Waste
  • Triple Bottom Line

Sustainability is a priority for interior designers in the commercial interior space. As new tools become available, new products and expectations start to trend. Recently, we see five noticeable trends:

  • Measurable Outcomes
  • Intentional Waste Disposal
  • 3D Printing & On-Demand Printing
  • Sourcing Local
  • Biophilic Design

Is low-waste manufacturing the future? We think so! A major inspiration in launching Design Pool was to encourage interior designers to embrace an on-demand, non-inventory system of manufacturing. Producing only as much product as you need, when you need it, greatly reduces the excess that ends up in the landfill.

In this interview with Helen Scott, head of fabric design at Borgstena Textile North America, about using recycled content in car interiors. She talks about which car manufacturers are at the forefront of sustainability, as well as materials made from recycled content such as those made out of ocean waste by the Seaqual Initiative.
