The Patterns in Light Play

The patterns in Light Play were all inspired by light and shadows and the sense of play around what light can do. Designed by Kristen Dettoni, they were initially conceived for printing on Veilish window film, an innovative new window film available through Graphix Unlimited.

Let’s take a closer look at the patterns in Light Play.

Three patterns in the collection all began with photos taken of kids playing on a summer day. Patterns Playful Silhouette Ombre and Summer Shadows are landscape layouts with texture in the shapes for warmth and dimension. These whimsical patterns add a lot of motion and energy to a room. Pattern Tossed Summer Shadows takes the same shadows and creates an allover, nondirectional pattern with them. This pattern takes the same fun and energy of the landscape layouts but makes something useable for a surface where you wouldn’t want a directional pattern, such as upholstery or flooring.

Community Shadows is another pattern featuring shadows of people. This pattern features a range of different types of people, not just kids, all striking a pose. Some walk, others hold umbrellas, and others have their hands on hips. These poses lend an air of interactivity to this landscape pattern.

Next, we have four different landscape floral patterns, each with their own twist. Silhouette Garden and Silhouette Plants both feature a range of various plants created from their shadows cast on sidewalks. Silhouette Garden Ombre adds some color to the pattern to increase the design’s interest. Lastly, Shadow Plants looks like it’s casting a shadow, bringing the outdoors inside.

For an allover floral design, there is Flower Shadow and Drop Shadow Garden. These designs are both still directional, but they have an allover layout. For something nondirectional, there is Tossed Silhouette Garden and Drop Shadow. These designs play with shadows and drop shadows to create a sense of dimension.

Lastly, there are two allover patterns, Shadow Feather and Shadow Puppets. Shadow Feather features falling feathers layered on each other. This pattern creates a calming pattern perfect for rooms where you want to establish a sense of peace.

Shadow Puppets, on the other hand, is both whimsical and nostalgic. For many, seeing these shapes brings back memories of family slideshows or flashlights at summer camp.

Perfect for Veilish.

This collection of fourteen patterns was designed with the woven window film, Veilish, in mind. However, any of our printing partners can print them on any material they offer. This collection debuts at NeoCon 2024, but it is already available to license through our licensable library. If you plan to attend NeoCon this June, visit Design Pool in booth 7-3050 to see these patterns in person.
