Proprietary Designs vs. Licensable Designs

If you click on “Our Designs” on our homepage, you will notice we have two categories of designs: Licensable Designs and Proprietary Designs. We talk a lot about our licensable library but not as much about our proprietary library. So, what’s the difference between the two categories?

Licensable Designs

These designs are available to license, not purchase. Patterns in this library are not exclusive to any manufacturer or designer. We have licensing agreements in place with our printers. They pay us a royalty when they sell their products with our designs.

Proprietary Designs

Our proprietary designs are available to purchase, not license. These designs are exclusive to whoever purchases the design. Each design has a price ranging from $600 – $2000. Once you buy the design, it’s yours to use anywhere on anything.

Due to the exclusive nature of our proprietary designs, we made the decision to keep this portion of our website password protected. This guarantees fewer people see the designs and protects the integrity of exclusivity. If you want to view these designs, it’s easy and free to register. Upon registering, we will make sure you have a legitimate business and will send you the info needed to view the designs.

The proprietary collection features independent designers.

Our library of proprietary designs is unique because it features the work of additional independent designers. This means you’ll always find designs with the unique Design Pool aesthetic you’ve grown to love, but you’ll also find other looks and styles available too. We currently feature three designers, all with extensive experience designing for residential and commercial markets.

Paula Stebbins Becker
Paula Stebbins Becker is a Rhode Island-based designer and artist using an intuitive, creative process to create her own unique style. Her designs often begin as cut paper and painting before moving to digital.

Rebecca Pry
Designer, illustrator, and teacher Rebecca Pry is based in the Hudson Valley. She created a fun group of patterns called 80’s Reimagined. These colorful and funky patterns were inspired by her personal collection of vintage, thrifted sweaters.

If you have any questions about either of our pattern libraries, leave them in the comments or send us an email. We’re happy to help you get started licensing or buying the perfect pattern.
