LDI Interiors Faux Leather Upholstery

At LDI Interiors, sustainable design is more than just an industry trend or empty marketing term; it is one of the core values of their company. They view sustainability as an essential part of their business model and an ever-evolving part of the design process. Each new product, each new design, is seen as a stepping stone toward a healthier planet.

It is with sustainability in mind that LDI Interiors develops long-lasting products for commercial interiors that improve indoor air quality without sacrificing performance. Their products are designed for a wide range of commercial environments, such as healthcare facilities, senior living, higher education, and corporate spaces. Their designers and engineers combine innovative technology, outstanding durability, and sustainable materials to redefine the way the industry specifies and views faux leather.

To that end, LDI Interiors entered the commercial interiors market in 2008 with EnviroLeather™ A PVC-free faux leather for use in commercial and residential interiors, EnviroLeather™ was developed when Kaiser Permanente, a large hospital system in California, requested a sustainable alternative to vinyl (PVC) upholstery, that would hold up to the unique demands of healthcare’s 24/7 environment. LDI’s unique understanding of materials and the performance characteristics of those materials, as well as the environmental and health safety impacts, guided their work in developing the PVC-Free upholstery EnviroLeather™.

Healing Essential Designs

Its success led to new opportunities. In 2012, LDI was awarded a Green Launching Pad grant by the state of New Hampshire to develop a more sustainable printing process as an alternative to traditional upholstery printing methods. With this grant, their engineers worked to remove toxins from their processes and use less energy during manufacturing. This new technology made it possible to offer very small minimums and the ability to customize colors and designs for their clients.

LDI Interiors sees customization as another extension of its sustainable ethos. By giving customers the option to customize the pieces they buy, they are producing only what is needed and cuts down dramatically on waste. This affords LDI Interiors the opportunity to offer a wide range of patterns and colors to the industry that complement their solid and textured faux leather upholstery choices.

Interior designers now have more flexibility when choosing patterns and colors. Being able to customize a project gives designers the ability to create a truly unique space for their clients. According to Jordan Blackman, “The response from the industry has been overwhelming.”

What’s next for LDI? They’re going to be expanding into other products for commercial interiors such as PVC-Free wall covering.

Design Pool has worked closely with EnviroLeather™ to develop a collection of patterns in a wide range of colors to offer their clients. Working on a project that you want to add that personal touch? Think about using EnviroLeather and feel good knowing that your products were produced with minimal impact on the environment.
