Design Pool’s Pick for Color of the Year 2021

Colors of the year for 2021 have been announced by Pantone and many major paint companies. The colors may differ from company to company, but their picks for 2021 Color of the Year all had something in common: comfort. For many, 2020 meant a lot of time spent at home and with a lot of uncertainty. As a result, paint and color companies saw the need to create a sense of calm and tranquility in our spaces. Their color choices and palettes for 2021 are soothing, grounding, and comforting while also looking forward to bright days ahead.

Here at Design Pool we also choose a color of the year. This year our choice is an energetic yellow. We’re looking to bring light and optimism into 2021 through beautiful patterns with happy bursts of color. Sure, we’ve been home a lot in 2020, but with fewer demands on our time, we’ve also been outdoors more and enjoying nature. The warmth of the sun, even in New England winters, lifts the mood and gets us inspired for brighter days ahead.

Check out a few of our patterns in our Color of the Year.

When we were researching trends spotted on the Spring 2021 Ready-to-Wear runways, we were overwhelmed by the beautiful shades of yellow. It got us thinking a lot about yellow. It doesn’t take the spotlight very often in home or fashion design. That’s too bad! A pop of yellow in a pattern can brighten the whole look and often balance out cooler neutrals. Like the sun, it can often make other colors look better. Out in nature, it can almost glow and seem to radiate its own warmth.

For us, yellow is a color that brings joy, optimism, and fun. And those are definitely all things I’m hoping we have a lot more of in 2021.
